Father’s History Could Offer Insight Into Mind of Las Vegas Gunman …

When Benjamin Paddock sat for the examination, he was built like a refrigerator and wore a neatly trimmed blond mustache and horn-rimmed glasses that framed strikingly light gray eyes. Pleasant, clean-cut and “incongruously cheerful,” he chain smoked through the interview, offering a gripping biography with a “fluent command of language.”

“He smiles frequently, sometimes winningly, shows occasionally just a touch of ruefulness,” the psychiatrist, William B. McGrath, noted. “No despair, alarm or concern about his fate is manifest.”

“I get the impression he enjoys being an interesting subject of examination,” the doctor wrote. He concluded that Mr. Paddock was bright, with no history of “mental defect,” and was able to stand trial. But, the doctor added, Mr. Paddock had a “sociopathic personality.”

The portrait of Stephen Paddock that investigators have assembled stands in stark contrast: Reserved, even boring, he was an accountant and

Father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock ‘ran illegal bingo parlour and tried to start his own church’

The father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock was reportedly a self-ordained minister who carried out marriage ceremonies and wanted to start his own church as well as being on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list of fugitives.

In the search to understand the psychology of the mass murderer, attention has focused on the colourful criminal life of his father Benjamin Hoskins Paddock.

Although the killer had no previous criminal convictions and apparently lived in the shadows of society, rarely speaking to his neighbours, his father was a larger than life character, according to reports.

Paddock Senior spent almost a decade on the run after he was sprung from a Texan prison in 1968, with an FBI poster describing him as a “psychopath” who should be treated as “armed and very dangerous”.

Tracking how the Las Vegas shooter got his hands on 47 guns

(CNN) — Investigators are still trying to pin down Stephen Paddock’s motive for opening fire on thousands of country music fans in Las Vegas, killing 58 people and wounding nearly 500 in the worst mass shooting in modern US history.

What they have uncovered — in his 32nd-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay hotel, his car, and his homes — is a remarkable collection of firearms commensurate with the scale of violence he unleashed before he killed himself as police closed in.

Here’s what we know about the weapons cache:

He had 47 guns.

In all, authorities have found 47 guns of varying size and power that belonged to Paddock.

Investigators discovered 23 guns in his hotel room in Las Vegas in the immediate hours after the attack, plus another 24 at his homes in Mesquite and Verdi, Nevada, near Reno.

It’s not clear how many guns were rifles or handguns. But at least 12 of those in

Evil, This Time in Las Vegas

“Evils which are not cured in one way will cure themselves in some other.” —Thomas Jefferson (1791)

Las Vegas is Spanish for “the meadows,” named by explorers in the early part of the 19th century.

Today, it is known best as “Sin City,” and Monday, our nation awoke to the horrors of unprecedented evil there — mass murder at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, technically in neighboring Paradise, Nevada.

During the closing performance at the crowded outdoor venue, shortly after a rousing crowd rendition of “God Bless America,” a 64-year-old sociopath, Stephen Craig Paddock, who had spent several days preparing for his assault from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel across Las Vegas Boulevard, began firing on the crowd. Before Las Vegas police could access his location, he murdered 58 men and women and injure 527 others among the crowd of
