Las Vegas shooting: All but 3 victims identified

Authorities continue to investigate what motivated the man they say opened fire on concert-goers as victims’ identities continue to come to light over a day after the attack.

During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Nevada officials said they have identified all but three victims of the shooting, but still offered no information on potential motives.

A gunman opened fire from a hotel room above a packed, outdoor concert in Las Vegas early Sunday morning, killing at least 59, wounding 527 more and prompting chaos as the panicked crowd scrambled for cover amid the deadliest mass shooting in

Nevada Reels from Tragic Shooting

Here in Nevada there’s a feeling of collective traumatization.  I’ve only felt like I felt on 9/11 one other time, and that was yesterday when I learned of this senseless event.  It’s a feeling that nothing will ever be the same.  It’s a feeling of something too big, and too horrible, to grasp.

Here in Reno we woke up to learn that the killer, Stephen Paddock, lived in the upscale retirement community that’s part of the larger Somersett development less than 10 miles away from our law firm.  He also owned a unit at the relatively new Montage condo tower in downtown Reno, just a mile or two away.  According to the Reno Gazette Journal he bought his home in Sierra Canyon, a Del Webb neighborhood in Somersett in June 2013.  He purchased his condo in 2012 and sold it last December.

The Reno Gazette Journal also reports that he lived in Somersett

FBI Seen at Site of Deadly Las Vegas Concert Shooting

*** Las Vegas Metro Police Department says to locate missing loved ones call 1-866-535-5654. ***

More than a dozen investigators, most wearing jackets marked “FBI” and all in blue protective booties, arrived in unmarked sedans and entered the concert site Tuesday to pick through the scene for clues.

The site inspection was visible by The Associated Press videographers from the 35th floor of the Mandalay Bay tower – three floors above the suite where Stephen Craig Paddock launched his barrage and later killed himself.

Authorities say 59 people were killed and more than 500 were injured Sunday night.

Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt compared the scene with a war zone. Laxalt is a former U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps member.

“Shoes, baby strollers, chairs, sunglasses, purses. The whole field was just littered with things,” Laxalt said Monday. “There were blood stains everywhere.”

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to

Five Observations About the Las Vegas Shooting

My day was already pretty full when I woke to the news of the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas, NV last night. Even so, I do not like giving people my “hot take” on events such as these because early reports are often inaccurate, we simply don’t know all of the facts, and speculation is simply foolish.

Here are my five observations about the Las Vegas Shooting.

1. We should focus on the facts.

  • The latest update from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says 58 people have died, and 515 are injured (I believe this number represents people wounded in addition to people injured in the melee that followed).
  • The gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, NV, fired at the 22,000 in attendance at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Sunday

Authorities Now Say 59 Dead, 527 Injured in Las Vegas Shooting

A community prayer and vigil for Las Vegas will be held Monday night on the Reno City Plaza from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is being organized by Acting Together Nevada The Northern Nevada Coalition. A different prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at the St. John’s Presbyterian Church at 1070 West Plumb Lane in Reno.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says several pounds of ammonium nitrate, a material used to make explosives, was found in the car of the man who authorities say killed 59 people and wounded 527 others on Sunday by firing down on a crowd of over 22,000 at an outdoor country music festival.

Lombardo also says investigators still want to talk the girlfriend of shooter Stephen Craig Paddock. He says she will be interviewed when she returns from an overseas
