Father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock ‘ran illegal bingo parlour and tried to start his own church’

The father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock was reportedly a self-ordained minister who carried out marriage ceremonies and wanted to start his own church as well as being on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list of fugitives.

In the search to understand the psychology of the mass murderer, attention has focused on the colourful criminal life of his father Benjamin Hoskins Paddock.

Although the killer had no previous criminal convictions and apparently lived in the shadows of society, rarely speaking to his neighbours, his father was a larger than life character, according to reports.

Paddock Senior spent almost a decade on the run after he was sprung from a Texan prison in 1968, with an FBI poster describing him as a “psychopath” who should be treated as “armed and very dangerous”.

Chicago PD, ATF team up to stop spread of illegal guns

(CNN) — The Chicago Police Department and Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will announce Friday a new task force aimed at decreasing the spread of illegal guns throughout the Windy City.

The team will consist of Chicago police officers, federal agents, Illinois state troopers, intelligence analysts and state and federal prosecutors.

“This new strike force will significantly help our police officers stem the flow of illegal guns and create a culture of accountability for the small subset of individuals and gangs who disproportionally drive violence in our city,” said Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Friday to tout federal involvement.

“Crime and killings in Chicago have reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help. 1714 shootings in Chicago this year,” he tweeted.

The President threatened to send in help early in his administration after months of campaigning against crime in Chicago

ATF demonstrates power, danger of illegal fireworks

TUKWILA, Wash. – Representatives from regional law enforcement agencies gathered in Seattle to demonstrate the dangers of illegal and contraband fireworks.

According to the Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office, fire departments and emergency rooms across the state recorded 327 fireworks-related fires or injuries in 2016.

As retail firework stands are scheduled to open across Washington on June 28, explosives experts provided a visual display of the potential threat to people using illegal fireworks.

Special Agent Brennan Phillips from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives set off several examples of illegal fireworks his agency regularly confiscates around the Fourth of July holiday.

ICE arrests of illegal immigrants climb by 38 percent

U.S. immigration officials arrested more than 41,000 suspected illegal immigrants during the first 100 days of the Donald Trump presidency, an increase of nearly 38 percent over the same period the previous year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials announced Wednesday.

The six New England states actually experienced a larger percentage increase during the benchmark period; 610 were detained, up 58 percent from the same period the previous year.

ICE announced the number of arrests that coincided with Trump’s first 100 days and noted they are following one of his first executive orders dealing with enforcement of immigration laws.

President Barack Obama had said ICE should concentrate on illegal aliens who committed crimes.

Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly has said that ICE will no longer exempt any class of individuals from removal proceedings if they are found to be in the country illegally.

“These statistics reflect President Trump’s commitment to enforce our immigration laws fairly

Illegal on FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List, MS-13 murder charge

There’s something missing on the FBI’s Most Wanted list — the expected domination of Americans.

On the current list, which includes two who have recently been captured, four of the remaining eight are non-Americans, one of whom entered the country illegally.

Walter Y. Gomez is Honduran and wanted for an MS-13 murder.

“Gomez is a known member of the MS-13 gang. He is a citizen of Honduras and was in the United States illegally,” according to his wanted poster.

But while the Trump administration has moved aggressively to capture criminal illegals and deport them, the FBI said that once caught Gomez and the other three will be prosecuted in the United States.

“Although the poster for Gomez states that he was in the U.S. illegally, the FBI does not tend to focus on the immigration status of wanted individuals. All individuals on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, regardless

FBI adds illegal immigrant eyed in gruesome killing to Most Wanted Fugitives list

The FBI announced Wednesday it added an alleged gang member and illegal immigrant wanted in connection with a gruesome killing in New Jersey to its “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list.

Walter Yovany Gomez and another man murdered fellow MS-13 gang member Julio Matute inside a Plainfield home in 2011, striking him in the head with a baseball bat, stabbing him 17 times in the back and slitting his throat with a screwdriver, law enforcement officials said. The killers may have suspected Matute was getting too close with a rival gang, WPVI reported.

POLICE COMMISSIONER SHARES WARNING ABOUT MS-13 GANG

When police tried to arrest Gomez, a Honduran national, he jumped out the second-story window of his home and escaped, according to the FBI. The other suspect was caught and convicted.

Feds Refused To Detain Killer Illegal Alien, So Now They’ve Put Him On A ‘Most Wanted’ List

A federal immigration enforcement agency is admitting — in not so many words — that it failed miserably last month when it refused to detain an illegal alien charged with vehicular homicide who is now on the lam.

On Wednesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) named 19-year-old Edwin Mejia to its “Most Wanted” list.

“ICE will work tirelessly to ensure justice is done in this matter…including to further publicize this case by posting Mejia on ICE Most Wanted List,” ICE director Sarah Saldana said in a statement.

Mejia, a Honduran national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2013, was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, on Jan. 31 and charged with felony vehicular homicide in the death of 21-year-old Sarah Root. Mejia was street racing with a blood-alcohol level of .241 when he rammed into the back of Root’s SUV.

Mejia, who also used the alias “Eswin,” has been on the run since posting bond
