Father’s History Could Offer Insight Into Mind of Las Vegas Gunman …

When Benjamin Paddock sat for the examination, he was built like a refrigerator and wore a neatly trimmed blond mustache and horn-rimmed glasses that framed strikingly light gray eyes. Pleasant, clean-cut and “incongruously cheerful,” he chain smoked through the interview, offering a gripping biography with a “fluent command of language.”

“He smiles frequently, sometimes winningly, shows occasionally just a touch of ruefulness,” the psychiatrist, William B. McGrath, noted. “No despair, alarm or concern about his fate is manifest.”

“I get the impression he enjoys being an interesting subject of examination,” the doctor wrote. He concluded that Mr. Paddock was bright, with no history of “mental defect,” and was able to stand trial. But, the doctor added, Mr. Paddock had a “sociopathic personality.”

The portrait of Stephen Paddock that investigators have assembled stands in stark contrast: Reserved, even boring, he was an accountant and

Father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock ‘ran illegal bingo parlour and tried to start his own church’

The father of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock was reportedly a self-ordained minister who carried out marriage ceremonies and wanted to start his own church as well as being on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list of fugitives.

In the search to understand the psychology of the mass murderer, attention has focused on the colourful criminal life of his father Benjamin Hoskins Paddock.

Although the killer had no previous criminal convictions and apparently lived in the shadows of society, rarely speaking to his neighbours, his father was a larger than life character, according to reports.

Paddock Senior spent almost a decade on the run after he was sprung from a Texan prison in 1968, with an FBI poster describing him as a “psychopath” who should be treated as “armed and very dangerous”.

Gunman in Vegas seemed to plan each move

LAS VEGAS — Investigators trying to determine what sparked the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history have found the massacre to be the work of a sophisticated planner with the means and desire to inflict unprecedented carnage.

But on the second full day after Stephen Paddock smashed out the windows of a high-floor suite on the Las Vegas Strip and opened fire on a crowd of unsuspecting concertgoers, authorities still were trying to understand what drove him to such evil.

Several new details emerged Tuesday about Paddock — a 64-year-old retired accountant — and how he worked methodically to thwart law enforcement as he killed scores of people and injured hundreds more.

As he fired round after round during an 11-minute stretch from a suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Paddock used video cameras to keep an eye out for police storming his hotel room, according

Las Vegas gunman’s Australian girlfriend Marilou Danley back in US, questioned by FBI

More than 3000 people attending a vigil for the Las Vegas shooting victims sing Amazing Grace by candlelight.

FBI agents questioned the girlfriend of the Las Vegas gunman hoping for more answers into what sparked the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history and possible glimpses into the intricate planning that turned hotel rooms into an armed fortress with hidden surveillance cameras.

So far, however, few clues have emerged to help investigators understand 64-year-old Stephen Paddock and the evil he rained down on a Las Vegas concert – leaving at

Las Vegas Gunman’s Criminal Father Vanished From Sons’ Lives

People who knew Stephen Paddock — even his brother — were just as dumbfounded when the police said he had gunned down scores of people in Las Vegas.

Even so, it is far from clear how much the legacy of the father, whose criminal career spanned five decades, may have shaped the son.

When the F.B.I. arrested Mr. Paddock in 1960, friends and relatives tried to protect Stephen and his younger brothers. While federal agents were rifling through bedrooms and closets in the Tucson house, a neighbor took Stephen — the only one of the four Paddock boys who was old enough to realize what was going on — to the neighborhood swimming pool.
